This program builds on your LPN experience and provides a flexible, supportive path to becoming a registered nurse (RN). You will gain essential skills in clinical decision-making, care planning, and evidence-based practice.

What to expect

The courses build on your LPN experience, focusing on clinical decision-making, care planning, ethics, and evidence-based care for acute and chronic conditions. You'll also refine communication and documentation skills from an RN perspective.

Clinical practice takes place mainly in Greater Victoria, with some evening and weekend shifts. During the Fall and Winter semesters, you'll engage in a mix of theory, labs, and hands-on nursing practice. After two semesters, you'll transition into the BSN program to complete your degree.

Below is an example of the Fall 2025 cohort's schedule (subject to change). Fall 2026 will have a different course schedule.

Year one

Fall (Sept to Dec) 鈥撎鼳cademic term one

  • Full-time, one day a week on campus (Monday)
    • ENG 151 or equivalent:听Online or in-person
    • NURS 112:听Online (asynchronous)
    • NURS 252:听3-hour lab on campus + 3 hours online (asynchronous)

Winter (Jan to Apr) 鈥 Academic term two

  • Full-time, 3 days on campus (Monday to Wednesday)
    • HLTH 111:听Online or in-person
    • NURS 253:听3-hour lab on campus (Monday) + 3 hours online
    • NURS 233:听Two 2-hour classes per week on campus
    • PHIL 250:听One 3-hour class per week on campus

Merge into BSN cohort

Spring (May to Jun) 鈥撎

  • Full-time (Monday鈥揝aturday)
    • NURS 290:听Three听consecutive听8-hour clinical shifts per week

Year two

Fall (Sept to Dec) 鈥听Academic term five

  • Full time course load, 5 days on campus/week (Monday-Friday)

Complete Year 3 and 4 (Terms 6, 7 and 8) at the .

  • Graduate of a recognized Practical Nursing diploma or certificate program.
  • Currently licensed to practice with no restrictions as an LPN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A letter from an LPN employer or supervisor describing satisfactory work performance and suitability for the PN2BSN bridge program.
  • All students must complete the English Language Proficiency听as per the University of Victoria's (UVic) .
  • Complete the
    • Acknowledge and understand the requirements for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as laid out in the .听

Notes:

  • Entry to the PN2BSN program is competitive and preference for admission will be given to those with higher academic standing.
  • GPA for competitive entry ranking will be calculated on the required high school and Practical Nursing program courses.
  • The program will maintain a short waitlist for entry into the same year, pending withdrawals or deferrals. In extenuating circumstances, an invited applicant may apply for a one year deferral. The waitlist will not be retained for future years. Those applicants meeting the academic requirements, but not gaining a seat in the year of application will need to reapply resubmit academic information already provided.
  • Students who are not in good standing at 宅男社区 or the University of Victoria, or in a healthcare program at another institution are ineligible to apply.
