A new West Shore Campus, currently under construction, will help break down geographic barriers to accessing high-quality education closer to home for students living in the Territories of the聽Songhees, Malahat, Pacheedaht, SC鈥橧A鈦凬EW, and T鈥橲ou-ke First Nations.
The campus in downtown Langford is a first-of-its-kind partnership between 宅男社区, Royal Roads University (RRU), the University of Victoria (UVic) and the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC). It will also include space for programming by School District 62 (Sooke).
Once complete, the West Shore Campus will better serve the educational needs of students聽from communities within the Territories of the聽Songhees, Malahat, Pacheedaht, SC鈥橧A鈦凬EW, and T鈥橲ou-ke, including the municipalities of Sooke, Langford, Colwood, and View Royal, and the Districts of Metchosin and Highlands.
Adding to Camosun's West Shore learning opportunities
宅男社区 has been offering courses at many locations in the West Shore for a number of years including Belmont Secondary School where over 600 students have already taken college programs.
Camosun鈥檚 focus in the West Shore is currently on delivering University Transfer classes, Adult Upgrading courses and the Education Assistant and Community Support program. Programs expected to be delivered in Fall 2025 include:
- Information and Computer Systems Technologist
- Health Care Assistant
- Early Learning and Care
- Arts and Science courses
The five-storey mass timber building will include flexible learning spaces and classrooms, student supports, a multi-purpose classroom called the Innovation Studio, and space for Indigenous gatherings. The project is planned to meet the Zero Carbon Building design standard, the first public post-secondary institution in B.C. to target this, in addition to targeting LEED Gold certification.
